Battery Safety
The standards, location assessment and product requirements every Smile Solar battery installation is designed to meet.
Last updated 13 August 2026
Applicable Standards
Battery energy storage systems must be installed in accordance with applicable Australian Standards, NSW electrical safety requirements and manufacturer installation requirements. Battery installations must comply with the applicable version of AS/NZS 5139 and NSW requirements.
Location and Installation Assessment
Battery location and installation design will be assessed before installation to ensure applicable clearance, access, safety and equipment requirements are considered. This typically includes:
- Clearance from doors, windows and escape paths, as required by the applicable standard
- Ventilation and temperature exposure at the proposed location
- Protection from direct weather where the location is outdoors or exposed
- Compatibility between the battery, the inverter and your switchboard
Product Requirements
Solar panels, batteries and inverters used for relevant Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) systems must meet the applicable product requirements, including Clean Energy Council (CEC) approval. We confirm the applicable requirements for your specific system as part of your quotation.
Who Can Install a Battery
Battery installation is carried out through appropriately licensed electrical contractors and accredited installers, consistent with the product, installer and installation requirements that apply to the system.
Questions Before You Install
If you have a specific question about where a battery can be located on your property, or what a proposed installation involves, raise it during your assessment — we would rather answer it before installation day than after.
